오티움
오티움 프로젝트는 사진작가 나승열이 피아니스트 고희안과 함께, 아이슬란드에서 잠시 기거하며 음악을 만들고 있던 색소포니스트 신현필을 찾아가는 여행으로부터 시작되었다.
행위의 보상이나 결과와 상관없이 그 행위 자체가 자신에게 기쁨을 주는 활동을 뜻하는 로마어인 오티움은, 서로 다른 창작자가 자신의 깊은 관심사를 공유하고 이를 통하여 자연스럽게 서로의 폭과 깊이가 확장되는 과정을 의미하기도 한다.
그렇게 확장된 관계 속에 서영도, 이원술, 임보라, 오정수 등의 연주자와 기획자 계명국, 기술감독 곽동엽까지 함께하게 된 오티움 프로젝트는 코로나 시대를 맞이하여 각자의 공간에서 격리되어 있는 두 객체, 즉 연주자(창작자) 개인에게는 소극적인 무위 활동 상태로부터의 창조되는 음악을, 그 음악을 듣는 청자에게는 평화 상태를 내포하며 아무것도 하지 않지만 시간적 의미가 부여되는 그런 시각이 될 수 있도록 기획되었다.
'Otium Project' began when photographer Seungyull Nah and pianist Heean Ko went on a journey to visit Saxophonist Hyunpill Shin, who was making music while living in Iceland for a while.
Otium, a Roman word meaning an activity that brings joy to oneself, regardless of the reward or result of the action, also means, a process in which different creators share their deep interests and naturally expand each other's breadth and depth.
In such an expanded relationship, various musicians such as Youngdo Seo, Wonsool Lee, Bora Im, Jean Oh, and director Victor Kye and technical director Dongyup Kwak joined.
Otium project focused on two objects isolated in their respective spaces in the Covid19 pandemic.
The project focused on music, created by an individual musician(creator) in an inactive and passive state, and focused on listeners to give a view that implies a state of peace in a state of inactiveness, while also providing them a meaning of time at the same time.
